Holiday Project: "Hug Me" Cards

“HUG ME” HOLIDAY CARD

This “Hug Me” holiday card can actually be used anytime of the year. It can also be used as a quick “pick me up” card when someone is feeling down.

The long standing tradition of sending Christmas or holiday cards is very much a part of the American culture. The concept of sending Christmas greetings first began in England in the early 1840s. Soon after, the development of lithography printing popularized the sending of colorful, decorative Christmas cards. Despite the ease of communication thanks to the telephone and email, the tradition of sending Holiday Cards to one's family and friends has continued to today.

This homemade card can be as simple or as “extra special” as you want.

Supplies Needed (basic): Crayons/markers, pencils, paper, scissors

Supplies Needed (Extra Special): Crayons/markers, pencils, paper, scissors, glue, construction paper,

STEPS

Step 1: Take an 8 ½ x 11 white paper and cut it lengthwise into a rectangle.

The new size should be 3 ½ by 11.

Step 2: Take the cut rectangle and make a tri – fold of the paper.

Step 3: Draw in pencil the image of your face in the middle and your hands on the left and right.

(if your child’ hands are small enough they can actually trace them onto the paper)

Step 4: Trace over the pencil with markers and add in a special message that will brighten up
any “scrooges” day.

To make this a more advanced homemade card, cut the face, hands, hair, etc, out of construction paper and glue onto the card.

Add in legs, hats, glitter, etc. if you want.

Be as creative as you want.

JUST A REMINDER BEFORE YOU BEGIN ...

ANY MATERIAL NOT ON HAND CAN BE EASILY SUBSTITUTED FOR SOMETHING EASILY AVAILABLE (EX. THE PROJECT CALLS FOR GLUE BUT YOU ONLY HAVE A STAPLER. YOU DON'T HAVE TO RUN OUT AND PURCHASE NEW GLUE USE THE STAPLER AND PICK UP GLUE THE NEXT TIME YOU GO SHOPPING).

CRAYONS AND MARKERS ARE VERY VERSATILE AND CAN BE SUBSTITUTED FOR MANY DIFFERENT SUPPLIES (EX. A PROJECT CALLS FOR CONSTRUCTION PAPER BUT NONE ARE AVAILABLE).
